SUBSTRATE PREPARATION:

The substrate should be intact, clean, dry, free of dirt, dirt, oil, grease, cement sludge, old sealant and poorly adhering paint coating that can affect the adhesion of the adhesive/sealant. The substrate must have sufficient strength to withstand the stress generated by the movement of the sealant.

To remove dirt, use a wire brush, sander, sanding or other suitable machine tool.

Remove dust, loose and crumbling parts from the substrate before processing a primer, activator or adhesive/sealant.

Sikaflex-11 FC+ adheres well even without primer and/or activator.

For optimal adhesion, gap durability and critical, high-performance use, the following priming and/or pre-treatment procedure should be followed:

Non-porous substrates:
Slightly roughen the surface of aluminium, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, PVC, galvanised steel, powder-coated metals or glazed ceramic tiles with sandpaper. For cleaning and pre-treatment, use Sika Cleaner P or Sika Aktivator-205, apply with a clean cloth.

Wait at least 15 minutes (up to 6 hours) before gluing/sealing.

For cleaning and pre-treating other metal surfaces (e.g. copper, brass and titanium-zinc), use Sika Cleaner P or Sika Aktivator-205, apply with a clean cloth. After a waiting time of at least 15 minutes (up to 6 hours), apply Sika Primer-3 N with a brush.

Wait an additional 30 minutes (up to 8 hours) before gluing/sealing.

Clean the PVC surface and treat with Sika Primer-215 applied with a brush.

Wait at least 15 minutes (up to 8 hours) before gluing/sealing.

Porous substrates:
Prime concrete, aerated concrete, cement-based plaster, mortar and brick with Sika Primer-3 N applied with a brush.

Wait at least 30 minutes (up to 8 hours) before gluing/sealing.

Note: Primers and activators promote adhesion, not a substitute for proper preparation and cleaning of the joint surface. Primers improve the long-term adhesion of the joint seals.

CLEANING TOOLS:
